Online
Basics of Risk Communication (KD3, 1 ECTS, partners: European Forest Institute, Pau Costa Foundation, National Fire Protection Association, Arup) provided participants a basis to become effective communicators on risks with a focus on fire disturbances.
The online training covered a general framework for risk communication, conceptualisation of communication strategies and maximising their clarity, relevance, and accuracy. Participants learned how to tailor messages and plan activities to meet the needs of various stakeholders (land managers, policy makers, general public) using best practices.
Five sessions of 2h each covered the steps from an overall framework for risk communication to content creation. The sessions provided elements of theory as well as practical exercises in small groups and brought together some key experts in the field of risk and fire communication.
This online training was followed by a workshop in Spring 2022 giving more in-depth training in person on the related topics.
