Born in Mediterranean Chile, this biodiversity-loving forestry engineer
became intimately connected to the world of large-scale spatial
analysis, driven by a desire to comprehend how living systems
function. From there, he discovered a very useful tool in quantitative
and spatial analysis for answering questions and providing solutions.
He stumbled into the world of fires by accident, as a member of the
Chilean national forest service´s R&D team, where he discovered a
beautiful community of people working to build the Chilean model of
knowledge about forest fires. His motivations drove him to expand his
knowledge in Europe and to work on transferring knowledge from the
world of Mediterranean forest fires to the unexplored world of
emerging fires in temperate ecosystems.
